Toyota A130 automatic transmission Qs...

Ok, I'm tearing down a friend's A130 that was pulled due to a no drive
condition, and we're up to the part where we need to get the pinion
shaft out.  Now, the book hasn't arrived for this, yet, and we see
there's a nut on the shaft, and I'm curious - how the heck do I get this
nut off?  I see it's got a crushed-into-the-keyway section, but I'm also
curious as to which direction it spins off, and how to lock the shaft
while I do this.  I'm guessing that you can use the park pawl, but no
idea if it's right or left hand threads :(

BTW, what are the popular problem areas in this thing?  Heck, are there
any?  It all came apart decently enough, and it seems to be a nicely
designed unit.  Are there any common things that would cause a no drive
on this?  From what I was told, it had no drive in any of the gears or
reverse.  It sounds almost like the front pump went to heck, or
something's just keeping it from building pressure...

Thanks! :)

See if this helps:

This is for a MK III Supra (you didn't say what model you were working on:
they even used these things on Jeep Cherokees...)

Nope.  This is a FWD 3 speed.

Oh, this is out of an older Corolla.

DUH!!!! My bad!!!!

It was about 6 AM after 'work' when I read your OP, and I thought it was
A340...

A130 is an entirely different animal, isn't it?!

Guess I better get some sleep!!!  ;)

That's ok :)

Oh, yes.  We *did* get the nut off today, with Mr Impact Wrench(tm),
but the gear is stuck there.

There's a set of threaded holes that suggest that a puller is needed,
which we'll either find or make next week.  After that, it's off to the
cleaners for the case, which is dirty.  And the insides are dirty too.
The stator shaft looks a bit rusty, but I think it can be saved, as it's
not scored and it's very light surface stuff...

One of the pages for a A340 does show a special tool in one step; as far
as a puller, you may be able to use 10mm bolts, like on the drum brakes,
but I would check that first.

Have a romp over to alt.autos.toyota and ask Ray O. He was a Factory rep
in the 80's, and he has resources and links to on-line Camry manuals that
I haven't bookmarked. He's a pretty decent guy.
