Didn't think much of it. It didn't mention the biggest variable-
driving style.
The biggest things you can do are;
Stay at speed limit. Aero losses are substantial at highway speeds,
and build up as square of velocity. An approximation, using the
binomial theorem, is that a five percent change in speed leads to a
ten percent increase in fuel consumption.
Stay off of brakes. Two things will help you do this. First, don't
drive with attention fixed forty feet ahead of car- look ahead down
the road. If you see the light ahead is red, don't roar up to it and
brake hard. Coast, use brakes sparingly, see if you can arrive just
as it changes so you don't need to come to a complete stop.
Increase your following distance. Something called "transport lag"
says the closer two cars are driving together, the harder the
following one has to brake to match speed of leader. You can see this
on the highway- the tailgater is using his brakes far more than people
who are not.
If you have a stick shift car, shift early but keep throttle
reasonably far open- say 50 to 60 percent, while accelerating.

Eliminating unnecessary driving helps a lot too. Many of us drive because
we fail to plan,
and we are too lazy to walk or bike.

Tire Pressure. Tire Pressure. Tire Pressure.
drive 55mph and save o ton of fuel it will extend milage by 20 percent
i think we need to go back to the 55 mph limit so we show the oil
companies what a gas glut is

What's the point in going to all that trouble?
Work an extra hour and you can drive into the country with all your
stuff, on bouncy tires, with luggage on the roof, fill up at country
petrol stations whenever you please, all for free!

you get it by working more :P
You don't gain anything by cutting back when you can't afford
something, that's just a step backwards, better to work more and you
can buy and enjoy all the petrol you want without any worries.
But those petrol saving tips were kind of pathetic. Petrol prices have
always been going up endlessly, if someone's gonna start scrimping
now, why didn't they do it 10 years ago? Why didn't they do it since
they first bought a car? Are they really going to keep their boot
cleared out for the rest of their life? It doesn't make any sense in
the big picture.

How does a frail 90-year-old woman on a fixed-income pension "....work an
extra hour....." to help pay her ever-increasing heating bill????
