Vehicle generally runs fine normally, but when driving down the
highway for 20 miles or more, upon slowing down on the off ramp
vehicle surges slightly, and idle increases when stopped.  The engine
light will come on momentarily from time to time when this occurs but
can get no trouble codes out of it.  There is a recall on the cruise
control but the cruise control is currently disconnected awaiting
recall parts. If someone has experienced this or can help troubleshoot
the vehicle I would appreciate any information that you can supply.

Thank You,
Don Smith

flow asensor

Thanks, will check the mass air flow sensor, but the throttle body was
very dirty about a month ago and was cleaned and fuel injector cleaner
additive added to the gas tank.  Before the cleaning was when it was
first noticed, but has persisted since.  Hopefully, the MAF Sensor is
the culprit.  Will report back after the holidays.  I know on some
vehicles some sensors can be temporarily unplugged to assist in
diagnosis.  Would this be one of those sensors?
Thank you very much for the assistance.
Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate the holiday.

get a ford EEC-IV reader with an extension cable
you can buy both for $54 at amazon.com  http://tinyurl.com/2k3kxo

and look for codes when driving the car.

cleaning only throttle body doesnt do much,   but maybe you meant also
EGR channels what are under throttle body elbow,  bad EGR flow can
cause check engine to come on too.  but its hard to diagnose which
element needs to be replaced.  I'm having this problem in my 93 Vic,
i already ordered all EGR related parts and will be replacing
everything.  But if its a EGR code try to clean the EGR channels
first,  instruction is at lincolnsonline in tech section.

But in your case i suspect faulty IAC.  buy motorcraft  because other
brands might not meet the specification.  its $62,99 at millennium
ford parts.  part no. CX1660

I was on a trip, when I came back, it was much worse, idling very fast
all the time, and it surges very often.  (When I slow down it feels
like someone is hitting the brake and letting go every second or so).
The check engine light is on most of the time now.  Out of desperation
I bought a MAF Sensor but there was no change.  Any other solutions
come to mind?
Thanks for any assistance.
