Hi all,

Sorry i have not been active latey, and i want to thank all who have
helped me before..Nut now i have another serious problem that i need
more brainpower for.

My buddy just picked up an eclipse, and when he purchased it, the
previous owner, claimed, that she was driving down the highway and the
vechile just died.  My first reaction was alternator, so i tested the
output, the alternator was fine.  The battery was just replaced, the
timing belt as well, so yesterday, i put a jumper pack, to try and
start the car, the engine cranked, but was cranking way to slowly..so
my next thought was the starter. boy i seem to be on a roll with being
wrong on this car, so i installed the new starter and now the pinion
engages, but the engine does not crank, even with my jumper pack
attached..i am preforming a tune up now..so if you can give me any
more ideas i would greatly appericate it....

Are you using your jumper pack on the battery or at the starter?

What happens when you apply 12v directly to the starter without using any of
the existing wiring?

Sounds like you might need to put the old starter back in as well.

Sounds like a bad battery to me.  What is the voltage reading on the
battery?  If you get an internal short on the battery your battery
pack isn't going to help much.

Well gentlemen, the battery is brand new, and when i put power to the
old and new starter the pinion will engage and spin, i found a small
issue one of the bolt holes in the starter housing is stripped.  So i
am going to try and put an helicoil in and see if i can fix the
problem, i know believe the starter may not be sitting in the bell
housing correctly. The battery reads 12.6 volts. I am also going to
replace the cable positive and negative, due to corrision i see on
them.
