For many years, I have thought about buying something like a glass pack
muffler, or whatever kind of muffler for what I might consider to sound
''better'' (probally this doesn't make much sense)
I have owned many old cars before and quite a few old trucks and old
vans.My current driver vehicle is my 1978 Dodge (I think it is a B200
Tradesman van, I would have to step out and look) van, 318 V8, automatic
transmission. The van still runs nice and quiet, but that old muffler I
bought and put on there myself somewhere around 1992 is bound to need to
be replaced with a new one, I think.I am interested in buying a muffler
that will put out a nice sassy brassy sound, sort of like some of those
old British cars.Any suggestions, please?

The most annoying sound would probably be to plumb the whole thing
with no muffler, but with a glasspack at the very end.

Should BLAT nicely.

(don't know why, but I must dislike your neighbors site unseen)

I dont want to put a muffler on my van that is annoying.Only something
with a little pizzzahs.Doesn't J.C.Whitney sell some snazzy glasspacks?
WebTV doesn't work so good for J.C.Whitney's website anymore.I need to

Glasspacks are pretty loud, you may not like it, and your neighbors
certainly won't.  Get a turbo muffler -- great throaty sound on a V8, and
not so loud that it's obnoxious, either inside or outside the vehicle.
Real cheap at any auto parts store.

Product Information
Q.     What Is Live Chat?
A.     Live Chat with JC Whitney facilitates communications between our
Product Service Agents and the customer by offering hosted services on
demand. There is no software, agents or operatives required, as the
services are provided from a secure data center. With a click the
customer can instantly contact an agent while online and get answers
to any questions they may have about JC Whitney products or ordering
questions. The service is the newest way to click to chat with a
Product Specialist. The concept in which a user in need of assistance
clicks on an on-screen button and begins a text messaging session.

Q.     How do I search for products?
A.     Virtually all the products from our print catalogs can be found
online. You can search for them the left navigation portion of the
page. To shop, enter the desired product or SKU# in the KEYWORD/ ITEM#
SEARCH box, select your specific vehicle in the CHOOSE YOUR VEHICLE
dropdowns or browse through the PRODUCT CATEGORIES narrowing results
to your desired products.

Q.     Are all the items in the print catalog available on the website?
A.     We work very hard to ensure that all our products are available
online. However, given the sheer volume of product available through
our multiple catalogs and the volume of new product introductions
there will be occurrences of product available in one or more of our
print catalogs that have not yet made it onto our website. If you find
something in our print catalog which is not available on our website,
please use the Order From A Catalog online method (located in the top
left navigation portion of the home page), or contact us to order any
products you cannot locate online.

Q.     Why does the product Item number appear differently in the catalog
than on the website??
A.     The SKU number shown in the print catalog differs from the SKU
number you see on our website for sales reference purposes. However,
if the six numeric digits are the same, it is the same product. See
example.

Q.     Is the information listed on JCWhitney.com 100% accurate?
A.     Although we check our information very carefully before adding a
product to our website, an occasional error may occur. Therefore, we
reserve the right to correct any inaccurate information and are not
responsible for typographical errors.

Q.     What type of warranty do you offer on products?
A.
Many of our products carry extended manufacturer's warranties. The
warranty period will be noted with the particular product. These
warranties state that if the item you purchase fails as a result of a
defect in materials or workmanship during the time specified, J.C.
Whitney & Co. will replace the item or refund the purchase price.
Limited lifetime warranties are in effect for as long as you own the
item and/or the vehicle on which the item is originally installed.
EXCLUSIONS: Warranties do not apply to items installed on vehicles
used commercially, for racing or off-road use; damage or failure
caused by another faulty part, improper installation, accident,
misuse, low fluid levels; items that have been modified, altered or
used in a manner or application for which it was not designed or
intended. The limited warranties above represent the total liability
of J.C. Whitney & Co. and J.C. Whitney & Co. makes no other
warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of
merchantibility or fitness for a particular purpose. J.C. Whitney &
Co. shall not be liable for any indirect, special, incidental or
consequential damages, nor for inconvenience or loss of use while the
item is being replaced, including the cost of a rental car, towing
charges, telephone calls, legal fees and costs, labor costs and any
additional parts required to remove and replace the defective or worn-
out part. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may
also have other rights which vary from state to state.

Q.     Do you have a retail store?
A.     Yes. We are located in LaSalle, Illinois. Please visit our Retail
Store page for more information.

It was hit-and-miss some stuff was good other stuff wasn't. Being close
to their showroom/wearhouse in chicago made dealing with them to be not
so bad.

They've now moved way out into the sticks, I've mail ordered a couple
items from them and so far so good.

Back in the day, their "off road" headlights were actually Polish-made
E-codes which were supposed to be almost as good as anything from Cibie
or Hella.  Don't know if that's still true or not.

Pretty often, when I stop at red lights, there are some cute women

Well, you can if you kick the compression up to about 10.5:1 and then
put a lumpy cam in it - will make a nice aggressive snap when you get
on it.  Unfortuantely, that kind of engine wouldn't be very useful in
a cargo van :)

Wouldn't it also require fuel injection?

Either that or just run race fuel, your choice :)  Aluminum heads
might help some but you'd still have to run super premium.

Fuel injection? Not for me! I drive about 240 something miles each
year.It would be cheaper for me to park my old van and call a taxi when
I need to go somewhere. But, I am stuborn, I am not ready to give up
driving yet.

Maybe I will ''experement'' with some tin cans I can clamp onto the tail
pipe of my van.Maybe a Bull Horn from J.C.Whitney to razzle them gals.
