Hi,

On my 85 Caprice with the 305 engine, my waterpump has a pretty worn out
bearing. I haven't replaced it yet, for various reasons. Lately I've noticed a
vibration in the accelerator pedal and steering wheel on acceleration
sometimes. If I rev the engine in neutral, I get a rough vibration too. My
question is : Could the vibration be due to the waterpump bearing going out?

Thanks

Yep. Your '85 Caprice with 305 has a large, heavy, clutch-equipped cooling
fan that is bolted directly to the water pump shaft.

Thanks.

Yea, and when it flys apart you will be replacing lots more than the
pump. See if you can change it soon. Once you get started you'll find
it goes fairly fast.

Thanks for the replies.  I put in a brand new water pump today. $24.99 from
Autozone.

No more vibration !!!!  WooHoo !!!!    Saved myself $120 in labor.   Although
it did take me 7 hours of non-stop work, with no mistakes, to get it done. I
don't know how the book says this is only a 2 hour job...     :)

It gets down to 2 hours when the brand-new-but-Chinese-made pump Autozone
probably sold you fails repeatedly. You get fast at it.

Glad it worked out...
