Thanks

What kind of headliner?  Is this one of the foam ones?  Is th foam
disintegrating?

If so, you cannot glue to foam.  You must tear the entire headliner out,
remove all
the old crumbly foam from the metal roof, then get a new headliner fabric
and
glue it in.  It's really a lot easier to have an auto upholstery place fix
it.  Last one I
had done only cost $100.

Short of a new headliner there is no fix. If ya wanna, though, try a
boatload of thumbtacks. In most cases, if ya shop, you can find the
right color as to not be so noticable. OR...go to your local home
improvement place, get some 3/4 0r 1" wooden lath strips, cut them to
proper length & snap them in place (like a boat tarp or tonahau
cover), here again once they are fit, take 'em out & paint to match,
have a nice day. Like most cases in life, the last place anybody looks
is up & it's alot cheaper than a new headliner. Good luck.

If this is like on my 86 Dodge Omni, forget the glue.  It doesn't work.  YOu
need to replace the whole thing.

I've done a couple of these over the last few years. The foam material
between the backing board and the fabric disintegrates. Temporary
fixes using something like a 3M spray adhesive (auto supply stores)
can be attempted, but I've never had that work for very long.

It is difficult to get the foam remnants cleaned off of both the
backing and the fabric, and then to get the adhesive distributed
evenly everywhere it is needed, and finally to get the fabric smoothly
back in place. Even if that holds, a few weeks later it starts falling
off in new places.

The permanent fix is to remove the whole headliner/backing board
assembly and take it to an auto upholstery shop. They can get the
right materials and colors and know how to do the glue job right. The
ones I had done that way cost about $100.

Your removal & replacement work will vary according to how much stuff
needs to be removed to get the headliner board out. You have to remove
moldings, visors, mirrors, dome lights, coat hooks, etc. You might get
a quote for the whole job from the upholstery shop.
