I'm planning on buying new front tires, and my car also needs a front
end alignment. should the new tire purchase come before the front end alignment?

The ideal thing to do would be to have the alignment done
*immediately* after having the new tires mounted. (as in, before it
leaves the shop.) Second best would be to have the alignment done
first. What you don't want to do is to drive the car with a bad
alignment and new tires; that can destroy the tires quickly.

Get the alignment done right after the new tires are mounted. That way
you are assured that the tires have not worn unevenly while the car is
being aligned, etc.
