Hello,

A quick question for you tire pros out there:

Can I use a set (4) of 185/60/R14 tires in place of my oem set of
185/65/R14 tires? I have a 2000 corolla. Are there any potential
problems (tires rubbing against wheel wells etc.)?

TIA.

Yes, they will fit.  There will be a very slight difference in your
speedometer/odometer action - the speedo will read faster at any given
speed compared to using the 65 series tires, but you won't notice it.

Infact the base model Corolla came with 175/65R14 tires.  There will be
no rubbing or other ill effects from this change.

Here's a good website to show you the effects of changing your tire size.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

in your case, your speedo will show 3.1% faster than your actual speed.

I for one really appreciate that chart, Bruce.  Got lotsa buddies in
racing who are frequently asking me to calculate various outcomes as they
alter various inputs, from diff. ratios to tire heights, etc.  Have a good
friend (and a threat at our local drag-strips ) who seems to have faith
enough in my accuracy when calculating such for him; however I NEVER
convinced him that his small-block, powering his car, was identically the
same speed at 6500rpm's in 4th gear as his big-block powering it in 4th gear
at 6500 rpm's.
Who cares, I guess?  He outruns me!  (Maybe I should merely switch my
engine to a big block!)  s

The age-old adage applies: There is no replacement for displacement.

You can't 'idiot proof' anything....every time you try, they just make
better idiots.
