which part do I replace

My car makes a thumping noise as I drive. At at higher speeds I cannot
hear it. It's coming from the right front tire.

I looked at the car and the right wheel turns more out than necessary,
ie If I try to put both wheels straight, the right wheel is still
turning right.

Most noticable when starting on ice, seems to slip more.

Any way I see a lot fluid at the front cv joint, and pinion area. Hard
to tell where's it coming from.

Anyone have any idea how to decide which part to replace.  The car
didn't get into any collisions. But I may have had a hard stop on ice,
with the wheels turned to the left on the ice.

Thanks

Idler arm, cv joint or possibly a broken motor mount!
see any tears or cracks on any cv joint boot -- their are 4 boots -- 2 on each
axle!
a cracked boot, perhaps a cv joint issue!

you can check the cv joints by turning the wheels all the way to one side and
then applying the throttle -- if you hear a crunching sound = cv joint issue!

auto or stick?

toe in or toe out would not cause a thump sound!

Hello
It's an automatic.

They do sell rebuilt CV axles, for about $80. Maybe I should try that
first?

Whatever ya do, don't go somewhere & spend a few bucks to have it
looked at by someone who could point you to exactly what you need. Just
start replacing stuff until the noise stops, who knows, ya might get
lucky & get it on the 2nd or 4th try. Wake up, dude. Good luck

No, diagnose the issue 1st! This way you will fix the issue at hand -- It's
pointless to repair something that may not be broken.

Check your constant velocity joints 1st -- while your down there take a look at
your idler arm -- idler arm is part of your steering system -- is opposite the
steering gear box

Next is to check the engines motor mounts -- with an automatic tranny is simple
to diagnose!

He's got an Escort with rack & pinion. No idler arm.

Might be simple to you or me but I agree with Pater, he should take it in
and have it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing. If he
requests an estimate before the repairs are made his repair options will be
open. Many places will diagnose a problem like this for little or nothing.

I didn't want to deprive the OP. he or she may have the need to get their hands
dirty!

Hey, the noise is coming from the brake pad (what's left of it) hitting
the rotor.  I guess those "lifetime warranty" pad do wear out?
What's the point?

Thanks for your help

The point of that is to get you to pay the labor for the install and if
you did it yourself the warranty is toilet paper 'usually'.
