Our 2000 Ford Econoline E-150 Van with the 4.6L V8 shows engine
hesitation at times, but only when the air conditioning is turned on.

Any help with diagnosing the problem is much appreciated.

Just a shot in the dark, but the A/C compressor coil is near the crank
sensor (very near).  Perhaps an intermittantly breaking connection in
the coil is emitting sufficient emf to induce false spikes into the
crank sensor harnass.  Do you have a P0300 random misfire code stored
in memory?
