There are a lot of charitable organizations that will take your car
and try either get it sold or sell it for parts. They'll bring tow
trucks if necessary and will handle any needed paperwork. They'll
also provide a receipt useful for tax purposes.
I'm assuming you're in the US.

take anything you want to keep out of it. i.e. custom radio system, radar
detector and all that. I put the stock stuff back in.
Call a reputible charity that takes them.
When they show up, sign the title and give it to them.
Get a receipt from the organiztion at the time of pickup that you can use to
show a charitible deduction (another form at tax time)
Remove your tags.
Cancel the insurance.
Say bye bye to the car.
If you turn your tags in to DMV sometimes your due back money if your over a
year left on the tags.

call a junkyard and they'll come get it and give you probably 50 bucks.

If you have the title, most junk yards will be happy to come tow your
car away. Some might even give you a few bucks for it.

In NY state we pay for two years worth of registration. If you get rid of
the car before the end of the first year, you can apply for a refund of the
second years fees. You also need to pull your plates and turn them into the
DMV, otherwise you can't cancel your insurance and if your insurance does
lapse, you get fined for every day you don't turn in your plates. The law
may vary in your state, so check with your DMV.

They do that here in Maryland too, with a 150.00 minimum and 7 dollars a day
each day after 30days.
Lots of fun if you have several cars on one policy and it slips a day.
