I have 1994 sentra E, with manual transmission.
I wonder what is the "neutral switch" used for ?

It shorts signal to ground when thecontrol lever is
in the neutral position - what does my car need it for ?

It tell your ignition what gear or if it is in gear. if you are in gear
and dont have the clutch in you cant start it, i would just replace it.

I cannot start the car even if in neutral without pressing the clutch.
In my car ignition is blocked by the clutch switch. I can start the
car being in 1st gear when I press clutch. Still dont feel the need
for the neutral switch... Anybody ?

I could be mistaken, but I think you are confusing an automatic with a
neutral safety switch so it can only start in park or neutral and a
standard with a clutch safety switch so it can only start with the
clutch depressed.

I have never heard of any vehicle having both.....

Could have something to do with cruise control... let's say that
someone were dumb enough (or just missed a shift) to let the clutch out
in neutral while the CC was engaged... that could be bad...

just a WAG

Could be. My Civic just lets the engine rev wildly :o

Interesting point... This model had an cruise as an option, but my car
does not have it. Maybe this switch is there just in case the CC is installed?
If this was true, I could use this switch for my remote starter installation
without any problems since I do not have CC in this car... THANKS.

That was exactly my point. I did not like the explanation about this
neutral switch acts as an inhibitor switch when starting: I wrote
I can start the car in any gear as long as I have clutch deactivated.

Simple then, it is like any 'normal' vehicle and only the automatic has
the neutral safety switch.  Yours only has the clutch switch like any
'normal' standard tranny.

On our newer Jeeps, we can add a fuse to the neutral safety switch slot
that says 'auto' for tranny if we own a standard and it will disable the
clutch switch for us.  That was nice of them.

It is handy being able to start in gear when off roading.

The thing is I REALLY HAVE NEUTRAL SWITCH.
I dived under the car yesterday and I found it.
I have it even tested with ohmmeter and it works as expected!
Shorted when the tranny is in neutral position, open otherwise...

My question was "what is it used for in my car with stick?".
I have two yellow wires coming from this switch and they
disappear in big cable mess above the transmission.
I would like to know where are they going to be connected.
