Hi,
I am getting severe outside edge wear on the 2 front tires on my 85
Chevy Caprice. Just the outside edges are wearing down (steel showing).
35K miles on the tires. The rest of the tread on the tires is full,
with no unusual wear. Sounds to me like the camber is off on both front
wheels. I had a new center link installed a while ago. Maybe that is to
blame.
Can I adjust something in the front end to correct the problem, such
as turning some adjustment sleeves about 1/8 inch out or in on both
sides?
Maybe I'll end up taking it to Sears, but just thought I'd ask about
any DIY solutuons first.
Thanks

A new centerlink MIGHT have affected the toe-in, which MIGHT cause the
outer edges of the tire to wear.
The Centerlink did NOT affect the camber.

Check the toe-in first. When the new center link was put in it probably
changed it.

Wouldn't an out-of-align toe-in wear the entire tire, and not just the
edges ?
Thanks

Depends on how bad it is, and tire pressure.

The accelerated wear tendency of an improper toe setting is wear on the
inside or outside edge of the tire, depending on if the problem is
excessive toe out or excessive toe in. A sign that this is a toe
problem vs. a camber problem is that improper toe causes the tread
blocks to "feather-edge". If you run your hand from the outside to the
inside of the tread and back, one way will feel smooth while the other
direction will tend to grab your hand (like petting a shark).
