I want to do a brake job on my '94 F150 but I need the special
socket to remove locking star nut that holds everything together.
Where can I get that socket? Is there a good web site to order from?

its a torc bit    pep boys  or your local ford dealer  ask them what
size it is they all start with the letter T
i would say its a t-50  but check
t-45
t-47
t-60    etc

TORX, not "torc".

Thanks.   How does that nut hold everything on without the chance of it
backing off?

The part you are talking about does not take the braking
load.  All it does is keep the caliper from coming out.  The
pads transfer the braking load directly to the spindle and
calipre holder such that the calipre does not really accept
any of the braking load.

I understand what you're saying, but when the vehicle is zipping down
the road at 50 mph what keeps that nut from backing off and letting the
whole package loosen up and fall apart?

You must properly tighten it just like any other bolt or
fastener.  You may want to use Loctitie on the threads.  If
you have any doubt as to your ability to do this, please
have a pro do the work or, at least, look over your shoulder
while you do it.  My life may depend on the quality of your
brake repair.
