What do you mean by "pin numbera"? Do you need the firing order
that the plugs connect in? The connector information?

Chevy distributors rotate one way (clockwise from top IIRC), Pontiacs go
the other way.
(you said it was a 400 in a LeMans, so I'm assuming it's a Pontiac but
you never know...)

Line up the timing marks and the rotor will point to terminal 1 or 6.
On chevy's it kinda points to cylinder #1 (front driver) when you've got
it lined up with #1 and rear passenger when it's #6.  I forget, but
assume Poncho wiring is the same but just opposite rotation.

Next time one plug wire at a time.  Eventually you'll reach the point
like I have where you can rip 'em all off and do it blindfolded...

What part do you line up the timing line on the harmonic and where to on
the motor, where they say it supposed to be timied at like mine recomends
9 degrees btdc.

If you put thought and effort into your question, people will put thought
and effort into answers.

Ok so where is the number 1 terminal located on the cap, or is it different
on every gm dist. I know the firing order and it goes counter clock wise
around but the starting point is where i am confused

The #1 wire isn't specifically located on the cap.  In a situation
where all of the wires have been removed and the distributor timing is
unknown, simply crank the engine to #1 TDC, remove the cap, note which
terminal tower the rotor is pointing at, then make that the spot for
your #1 wire.  Then run that wire to the #1 plug in the left bank.
Continue attaching wires clockwise 8,4,3,6,5,7,2.  Now you need to
rough time the engine to get it running but you should be close enough
to accomplish that with the above technique.  Finally, time with a
timing light to specs, probably about 8 - 10 degrees BTDC.

The groove in the balancer lines up with the "0" on the timing tab to
indicate TDC.  The numbers to the side of "0" are degrees BTDC.

In the email I sent in response to your email I explained
how to determine your distributor rotation direction.

I typed "clockwise" in the last response by mistake.  I meant to type
"counter-clockwise".  The distributor rotates counter-clockwise as
viewed from the top.  A service manual or internet search would have
revealed this to you, but then you wouldn't get the chance to thank
everyone in lower case letters.
