I have a 1998 Saturn SW2 that runs almost perfectly, but has one minor
annoying problem that I want to ask about here. The vast majority of the
time, the car starts very easily with no problems, unless I am trying to
start it immediately after just having filled the fuel tank. In these
instances, it cranks a long time before starting, and continues to
stumble until I go to move from the fuel pump. By the next time I reach
a light/stop sign/etc., it is back to running fine.
Any ideas?

Maybe you are stirring up something in the fuel tank, like a layer of water
on the
bottom. When it separates out, then the engine might smooth out.

I agree... sounds like fuel tank contaminants at work here.

Could be that your charcoal canister is flooding during fueling. I'm not
familiar with the plumbing on your particular vehicle so I can't offer
specifics, but if the canister is flooded with gas and the purge valve is
open, you will get a mixture in the cylinders that is too rich to burn.
Sounds like competent mechanic time.
