Hi:

I've been trying to figure out what's going on with a Mercury Sable 89
car...where after driving it for a while smoke had started to emmit
from the back of the car.

It either looks like it came from the gas line (where you put in the
gas)...or the exhaust pipe...after I looked under the car I didn't see
anything that looked like it would cause it to occure...but before this
happened the car had a chugging sound.

Thanks in advanced for any response.

What's the smoke smell like?  What color is it?

if it is the 3.8 liter engine and it is white smoke then its another
bad head gasket.....been there done that...... they all do that
eventually

caution..... if you let the car sit overnight and coolent leaks into
one or more cylinders and then you try and start the car in the morning
and the piston tries to compress the water which it can't, you will do
major damage to the engine...
