i heard weird clanking on the front left side wheel then about 10 seconds
later the car just stopped (95 camry le)... now it just makes really weird
sounds when in drive or reverse, won't go and GET THIS, can be pulled
forward or back while set in park with the motor off! anyone have any ideas?
thanks in advance

Sounds like you have a broken axle/CV on the left side. Both axles have
to be connected in order for the car not to move in park. Samething
with the car running and put in drive, the axle thats broken off is
making the noise you here banging around. If you ever got stuck in snow
you know what I'm talking about, one wheel turning like mad but the
other sides not doing anything.

C-V joint failure. The alternative is much nastier and involves a new
transmission.

Yeah - you lost a drive axle - Exact details can't be given from here,
but it's likely that either the CV joint let go, or something simlar
happened. Whatever it actually turns out to be, it sounds to me like
you're pretty well "skrewt" until you get a mechanic in there to fix
whatever it was you neglected horribly for many many miles before it
finally broke.

Thank you guys so much, you were right on, it was a snapped cv and i didn't
have to go to the mechanic without a clue about the situation. It cost $355
with towing (the guy recommended to replace both axles)

The first time this ever happened to me, I was horrified at how much the
labor cost was to install one simple component.
The second time it happened to me, I did it myself, and I found out why
the labor cost was so high.
The third time it happened to me, I paid the money gladly and was very
thankful I didn't have to do it myself.
