Being a poor dude I bought a used Avalon from Hertz.I was happy with
myself until my wife pointed out the dents I'd missed. A couple on the
hood, even a blind man should have been able to see, and after his
wife pointed them out, they seemed to take on a brilliant glow that
caused people from miles around to come over and say "hey, where'd ya
get that grand-canyon-sized dent in ur hood? Anyone fatally injured?"

The body guy wanted $350, not a fortune, but I've had bad luck with
non-factory paint not having a long lifetime, so I decided I wanted to
try one of those paintless dent fixer guys. The dents in the hood were
in fact quite shallow, maybe six inches long, like someone's briefcase
had unfortunately fallen there, and looked fixable to me, not that I
know anything.

Anyway, after doing my google research - finding a couple of stories
like the one I'm going to end up with, and no negatives  -  I tried to
find someone to do the deed. Surprise, there seem to be at most a
dozen guys in the Los Angeles basin doing that, none particularly
close to my corner. I ended up with a guy who does business as DentPro
- since I was really happy with the outcome, and the guy seemed human
(though much more expensive than I'd expected) - I'll be brazen and
list his number: 310 629-8224.

The happy ending is that I (and my wife) can't tell the dents were
ever there. A good businessman, he found half a dozen smaller ones on
door panels, and one on the back that I'd seen but wasn't too excited
about, and so the bill worked its way up to $400. Much more than I'd
expected (but no rude surprises - that was the quote up front, after
he'd looked over the car, and I was free to have him not do the lesser
ones).

Anyway, the reason for this blog is just that I was really impressed
with the outcome. I've been driving around for several weeks with my
dented hood, feeling like a fool for not having noticed it, and now
it's gone, poof, and the car suddenly looks good as new..  If anyone
finds themselves in the situation where they have a toy with a dent,
give him (David) or one of the others a try.
