I've got a 2002 impala with the 4.3 engine, my problem is a battery drain.
the radio lights go on and off at liberty as well as the light on the gear
indicator. I've put a new battery in it, five days later it was dead. had
it checked out at the garage and the draw test was good and the alternator
was putting working fine. also charged the battery up and took it ba ck a
few days later and they said that was good as well. I'm stomped

It sounds like you have a short somewhere.... probably in the circuit of
the radio and or the gear indicator.... I am willing to bet that they are
both in the same circuit though.  You will need to track it down either with
a schematic, or follow the wires to make sure they aren't touching metal
(grounding) which can be a hard task.  Did you recently do something to the
car electrically?  If so, then chances are you will need to double check
your recent work.

Good Luck..

Please do, the fact taht the lights on the radio and gear indicator tell
me that they are drawing power which is ultimately draining the battery....

Good Luck,,

hey partner the problem was the bcm module, and guess what, it has to be
replaced and then only a gm dealership can reprogram it. what it does is
control all the electrical stuff in the car. its going to cost a few bucks
but i like the car. well i thought i'd let you know what the culprit was.
thanks for the time and the help.  johnnybuck

Never heard of that one.  What does a body control module -do-?  Open
and close the blinds when the sun comes out? ;?

It does pretty much the same thing as your GEM module.
