Low coolant light

I had the low coolant level light come on in my car about two weeks ago.
I was close to home so I just drove it home.

When I got there, the surge tank was empty, so I filled it with a bottle
of 50/50 I had in my trunk. Then I noticed there was a pretty decent
leak coming from the heater inlet hose.

I tried to change the heater inlet hose, but it turned out that the
plastic (!) pipe that was the inlet of the heater core was the part
leaking, not the hose.

So, I replaced the heater core and now the system is full and there are
no leaks......

BUT THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT IS STILL ON!!

What's going on?

Thanks!

Are you saying the overflow tank is full and the light is on?  Not
clear.  If so then you have a problem with the coolant level sensor
circuit.

Otherwise, you may not have flushed out the bubbles and airpockets -
fill it up once more and track the level closely.  If it goes down
again, you probably have another leak to chase down.

Your 1992 Pontiac Grand Am has a float sensor in the overflow tank.
Sometimes it sticks.  Give it a whack.

It's a 98 Grand Am, sorry that I failed to mention that.

The overflow tank is full and the light is on.

When I unplug the sensor electrical connector on the surge tank, the
light obviously stays off.

I'll try the "give it a whack" method and see if that helps. I suppose
it is a stuck or otherwise malfunctioning sensor.

Thanks.

Try to clean this sensor, it's locked by dirt etc. in the on position.
