1972 2 barrel car problem car dies in gear need to know adjustments

i have a 1972 chevy nova completely stock. it has a rochester 2 jet carb.
it starts alright for a 72 but it sounds like its sucking a lot of air.
also when i put it in gear it dies any help and comments would be
appreciated

If you hear a lot of sucking that could be a vacuum leak.  look for a
hose that's fallen off etc.

     Check the mounting bolts. In that era Chevrolet had this
brilliant idea to mount 2 barrel carbs with just 2 bolts. It just may
be loose. But do check every hose that comes off the manifold for
cracks and broken spots.
