i own a 1991 toyota mr2 and recently its gotten really hard to switch
into gears. back in october i had purchased a high performance
clutch in my car that grabbed very hard off firts gear. 2 months
later i couldnt switch gear it had gotten very hard so i took it in and
they told me the clucht was worn out. so i purchased a new one and
still the same problem. 2 years ago i had encountered the same problem
but it came to be my slave and master sylinders had gone bad so i
replaced them and the car ran great. well the mekanics told me the
the sylinders were bad again because the high performance clutch i
had installed in october was too much and they were shot again. so i
replaced the cylinders again put in a new flywheel because the old one
was wore out bought new motor mounts all around even changed the cables
that run from the shifter to the transmission, and still the same
problem. the only time im able to switch gears some wat ok is wen the
car is moving. im about to purchase a new pressure plate from the
dealer because they tell me that might be the problem too. but the
pressure plate it has on there has les than ten miles on it. i dont
know wat else to do. im running out of options. heeeelp.

Sounds like the clutch isn't fully releasing (is dragging). Your slave
cylinder might not be stroking far enough to fully release the
aftermarket clutch, or something about the clutch itself may be not
quite right.
Get one rear tire off the ground (both if this thing has limited slip,
but its a front-wheel drive, I believe, so it prob. won't), put it in
neutral, e-brake off (you did shut it off and bloick the tires, right?)
see how much effort it takes to spin the tire.
Now have a bud put it in 1st and put the clutch pedal to the floor- it
should be about as easy to turn the wheel. A little harder, but not
much harder.

Sounds to me like you have been the victim of incompetence. I think I would
look for a good mechanic and start over with a proper diagnosis. I hope that
through all this someone bothered to check the fluid in the transmission and
the that clutch release bearing was also replaced with the clutch.
God luck.

Doesn't sound like it was worn out. It sounds like it was warped due to
excessive heat from slipping the clutch. You might consider buying a
vehicle with auto transmission.

The same problem being it lasted only 2 mos? Or are you telling us they
gave you the car back where you couldn't shift into 1st gear when
stopped?
