I've done diagnostics on my compressor, and I think I've established
that the clutch is bad. It will not click.  My question is can either
myself or a service tech replace the clutch with the unit still on the
car and without disconnecting the freon lines.  The pulley is
accessible from the front wheel well.

On most you can put 12 volts directly to the clutch wires to test it.
Folks that use the AC compressor for onboard air just toggle 12 volts to
the clutch to turn on the compressor.  If the pressure is low, the
clutch won't turn on automatically.

I would try that first...

As long as there is room for the special clutch removal tool to be used, you
can replace the clutch without removing the compressor.  I have never tried
it on your particular model but it can be done on some cars. The only way to
know for sure is to get the tool and try it.  Compressor clutch removal
tools are available from several different manufacturers and some are longer
than others.  Try searching for "ac compressor clutch tool" on google. There
are many listings starting at around 50 dollars.
