Just the inserts, once every 2 years.

The inserts = every 5 to 7 years. The arms = never.

I usually change them when they start streaking, etc, which is
about every two years. We have a Buick that has to be changed
yearly, because the driver's side has an odd angle of repose, and
the blades seem to deteriorate faster than they should.
I have used the blade inserts as well as the entire wiper assembly.
The latter is a little faster.
The arm itself (from wiper motor post to wiper assembly) generally
does not need to be changed. Sometimes they are the cause of
wiper blade skipping but they can be adjusted (manually bent) to
an angle which will prevent the most of this. Proper reindexing of the
arm and new rubber will stop the skipping, at least for a while.

Where do all you guys live? I find that inserts last me maybe 6 mos.
at best before they start streaking, and a year tops before they are so
bad that I have to replace them.
Of course, my cars are all parked outside 24/7 so that is probably not
very good for keeping the rubber in top condition.

Wow seems kind of long
I've been changing the inserts every 6 months. I live
in north Missouri.
Also....I've been changing them pro-actively.... that
is I change them BEFORE they go bad. Last thing I need
is one to fall apart when I'm driving down crowded
interstate and its raining like hell out

I also keep a spare set of inserts in trunk for emer
purposes
Do you think it would actually be faster to change out
entire arm when emergency?

Hey 'me', my emergency was one night, 100 miles from home, on an
interstate, no flashlite, and it was pouring rain--nothing was fast! As far
as quickly changing, I've seen several designs that were much faster to
change the entire arm. Seen it the other way too. (I've changed a bunch of
them, having grown up in a service station and then running a dealership for
22 years.) If I had to "feel" my way thru the ordeal at nite w/no light,
I'd generally prefer the entire arm procedure. s

The inserts can, sometimes, be a little 'fiddly' to get in properly. Maybe
my
manual dexterity is not as good as it once was.
The wiper assembly takes about 5 seconds to snap in. Last one I bought was
a couple of weeks ago, a Michelin at WalMart, and it cost maybe $5-6.
Never
used this brand of wipers before and wanted to see how they hold up.

They are changed when they show evidence of not working properly and I
usually change the entire blade assembly. There should not be a reason
to change the arm unless it was bent.

I only change an insert when the rubber is separating from the base. I
have never changed an insert due to streaking. They can always be
cleaned with vinegar or naptha.

Well, not always...I have seen them that, no matter how hard you tried to
clean them, didn't respond with a clean path. Maybe the rubber was damaged,
don't know.
If the rubber has started to separate and tear, you can risk having someone
like my exwife drive in the rain with the metal scraping the windshield.
Silly shi*
ruined a new windshield that way. She 'didnt have time' to stop at a
service station
and have it replaced.
