Hi all

Following a coolant change we (that is I!!) managed to add around
quarter a pint of oil to the header tank (memo to self - don't store
used oil in coolant containers).
Most of this we removed manually - however there is still a small
amount of sludge lining the tank and this is gradually making its way
into the pipes.

Is there any way of removing the sludge using an additive rather than
physically cleaning out the pipes/tank??

I have seen this happen before. I used a liberal amount of dishwashing
soap mixed with water as a temporary coolant mixture for about a half
hour of idling. Then drain and flush with clear water thoughly before
refilling.

P.S. Always remember to use distilled water in your anti-freeze
solution to keep the mineral content down to a minimum. This works
wonders in eliminating lime buildup in the radiator that eventually
causes overheating. It also keeps the heater core clean inside for
maximum heat transfer on cold winter days.

Thank you - I'll give that a try this evening.
