What makes you think that you can't negotiate with a dealer?
What kind of warranty do they offer. You can't get that from a
private sale.

By the way, we bought a car from a dealer a few months ago. It was
priced at the KBB dealer price, we got it for 1200 less, at the KBB
private party price.

There is as much, if not more, risk from buying from used car dealers.
As a matter of fact, often times people get screwed royally buying from
used car dealers. They have the experience in hooking suckers. They have
the know how and money to make a P.O.S. look like a super great car, and
then selling it for top price.
When you buy from a private party, you get a better price right off the
bat, you also can see who drove the car, how he/she cared for it, and
more likely be able to find out what is wrong with the car. The car
dealer quite likely bought it at an auction, and really doesn't know
a thing about it.
The only dealers that won't overly screw you are the new car dealers that
have an excellent reputation, and do not advertise on late night TV or
run Huge adds offering all sorts of special deals, or financing or
try to make there normal everyday business sound like some special
event that only a few are able to participate in.
Sure, it's

No it doesn't. And you are confusing the Certified Honda Used Car program
with the rest of the cars. The certified program only applies to newer
cars with under a certain mileage. Go to
http://www.hondacars.com/certified/landing.asp
or www.honda.com and click on cars/Honda/Certified Used
That is a good program, but they will not certify a ten year old car.
They also have to disclose,

Only if you buy a car that is certified, and 5 grand isn't enough.

Sure, no problem. I read about things here, and then decide to research
them. Someone had mentioned the Honda Certified Used Car program on another
Newsgroup, so I checked it out. It is easy to understand, and sounds like
a great thing.
As noted, if you go through the Honda Certified Program you will get a
good car, the same should hold with similar programs through other
manufacturers. However, look out for the dealer. I can see some shady
dealer trying to indicate that all the cars are in the program when they
aren't.
