Ok, I have found a buyer who is willing to purchase my car, subject to car
inspection by a mechanic. She, the buyer, wishes to have the car inspected
by the same dealer (Volkswagen) where I purchased the car. Obviously I have
nothing to hide and am willing to do it. Obviously the buyer is going to pay
for that inspection. I'll call and confirm that with her but she already
said she'll arrange it. Ok, but to my next question about other details like
.. what rights does the potential buyer have with regards to getting
potentially confidential info from me ? What if the buyer wishes to see my
contract with the dealership and or wants to speak with them ? Personally,
as long as the car gets a "green light" from the mechanic, and I have
provided her with a car history (CarFax + ICBC) report, I feel that all
other info is not her business, right ? Please advise me on how to best deal
with a scenario where the buyer wishes to pry more into the details of my
contract or wishes to speak to someone in "finance" or whomever I've dealt
with when buying my car.

Thank you so much for your help,

Daniel

Daniel,

Ask yourself, what personal information could the mechanic tell the
buyer?  She could probly find more juicy stuff about you digin under
teh seat and in the glove compartment. ;)

Also, if you are uncomfortable with teh car being reviewed at the
dealer where you had maintenance performed, ask if another mechanic in
which you've never met can look at the car instead.

And..... Don't forget, you can just refuse her offer and keep the car
on the market.

hth,

tom

Thanks for your reply Tom but I think I phrased the question wrong. What I
meant to ask is if after the mechanic takes a look at the car, as the buyer
wants, she may want to take a look at my contract and perhaps even talk to
the sales and finance people upstairs, from where I bought the car. Does the
buyer have any business dealing with those people and looking at my contact,
which I deem confidential ? I mean, I gave her the CarFax + ICBC history
reports and also agreed to have a mechanic look at the car. Enough is
enough, right ? Would I be in the right to refuse any further prying on her
part ?

Thanks again!

Daniel

I'm wondering why should look at any materila like that, and why
anyone would let her.  Do you own the car?  I.E. title is in your name
with no liens?

later,

tom

Under the current privacy laws in effect in the US the
contract holder can not discuss your contract with anybody
without your permission.
