I accidentally put the gear into reverse from neutral. I had my foot on
the brakes but not on the clutch. The engine stalled and shutoff. The
car was stationary. The transmission is manual and it is an '87 Honda
Accord.
Could this damage the reverse gear?
All the gears (including reverse) work fine without any strange noises.

Thanks
Well I would say that if everything is shifting OK and there are no strange
noises your fine. I wouldn't suggest a steady diet of this but an accidental
shift into reverse at idle shouldn't cause any major issues. You probably
would have done more damage if you had hit a forward gear as a synchronizer
may have been damaged. I don't thing that any standard shift has
synchronizers in reverse.

Since everything seems fine, then everything should be fine.

Always do, as do most people. When a question is posted, almost everyone
will reply in the group. That is way of the usenet.
