I want to buy a portable car jump start system. Are these jump starters
reliable and work as advertised?

Which of the following would one recommend:

Car Start 1000
Vector VEC021 AC/DC/ Jump Start System
Vector 12V DC Power Supply / Jump Start System

Thanks in advance

How about web sites for us to look at? Or are we supposed to look for them?

I was wondering whether anyone had experiences with thes porducts.

My concern is whether these products are reliable.

I don't have particular experience with these models but I can talk in
general abotu the one I have and the ones I've seen.  Most are sealed
lead-acid bateries.  Which are very reliable.  Only one or two moving
parts, like switches.  So the onlything that I can figure that can
fail is the switch or the charging circuit.  So do look for a reliable
manufacturer.

Now for size, imagine you have a totally dead battery.  Most of these
jumpers will not get you started.  200-300 amps isn't enough for too
many starting attempts.  I learned this.  I have a small one that will
help if the battery still has some juice in it, but a totally dead
battery was not startable by my 220amp model.

But as you go up, you can see a sharp rise in size and price, so you
have to figure out what you planning on using it for.  I just wanted
mine for those cold days that the wifey forgot to turn off the
interior light.

hth,

tom

I have had 3 experiences with them. All on the positive side. Very
positive. With two of them, I had a Honda that I left the lights on
a couple of times. Very annoying.  Both times I got a jump off of one
of them, started right up. As good, if not better, than straight from
my battery.
The other experience really tells how good they are. When the earthquake
of 2001 hit in the Seattle are, the outfit I worked for had a large
emergency generator that was supposed to start automatically. Unfortnately
the last time the service company came out to test they disconnected the
battery and never reconnected it. So when we lost power, the generator
did not start. The battery was dead, actually 2 12 volt batteries in
series to give 24 volts. So the facilities crew got a truck and jumped
one battery, and used one of the portable jump start units on the other
battery. Got the generator started right up.
