Yes. Actually the radiator is what cools the engine. The radiator is how the
coolant changes temperature.

Not at all. One is cooling the engine, the other is cooling the
radiator.  By the way, if your radiator is overheated, it might need
new bearings.  Radiator bearings fail quite regularly. Check with your
mechanic.
