I am looking at buying a 2002 Mazda Protege'. When these cars were new the
sticker gave a gas mileage rating of 36 mpg. Now if you look at ratings on
different websites it is only rated at around 31 mpg. Can anyone tell me
what kind of mileage I can expect from this car. It will be a 5 speed.
Thanks.

Mileage is more affected by driving habits than anything else. You can
take a very efficient vehicle, and manage to get terrible mileage. You
can also take a less efficient vehicle and get reasonable mileage.

The difference between 31 and 36 is not statictically significant.
