One of my friends was telling me that you can remove the resonator (aka
Bong) from the air intake tube in order to get a deeper throaty sound
from your exhaust.  Is there any disadvantage to this (ie poor gas
mileage, shorter engine life) or is it without consequence?

Thanks

It's simple, trying to changing the air flow by removing the intake pipe
will not allow any more are in the engine. All you'll hear is intake noise
by removing it.

Ask your friend to elaborate for us how this changes exhaust tone.

imho:

Don't know about gas mileage, but if you leave the opening unplugged,
it might make the engine work less to breath.  Now that is just a
guess.

As for noise, I think a friend removed his, and he said the
'throatiness' was removed, making the car sound more like a lawn
mower.

Might want to modify the exhaust pipe to get a deeper sound, not the
air intake.

My problem with modifying the exhaust is that it will cost money!  ;)

Ha, Ha, Ha.  I think you know what most people here would say, then
work on making money rather than what your car sounds like. :-P

But...... I think you can tail pipe addons via ebay.  People buy small
stuff like that, then want to upgrade, and sell off their little toys.

Good luck on learning how to repriortize life.  ;)

later,

tom

Well, right now I am in my 4th year of Electrical Engineering at
University, so I don't have much time to work, and school sucks the
money right out of me (I've paid for it all by myself...no help from my
parents!)

Soon though, I will get a job and make lots of money, and then the real
cars come!
