Hi:
I just changed the alternator a few months ago but last week my car
didn?t start and when I turn the key it would make a weird hissing
sound but the radio etc would work. Half an hour later it worked by
itself. A few days ago I left my lights on and my battery was dead and
I jumpstarted it and it seemed fine but when I tried to drive it a few
hours later it wouldn?t work, no sound. And yesterday it made the
hissing sound again:( I am very upset. It is a 93 Geo and the battery
is a lso new. Any ideas? Or do you know someone around Boston, MA that
would figure it out without ripping me off?
Thank you:)

Sure sounds like dirty battery cables to me.  They need cleaning on a
regular basis at both ends....

To better help you, you should post voltage readings you are getting.
Before car is cranked, after car is started, and if at all possible,
while cranking(see if you goto 0 volts fast).

When you jump start and your alternator must run full blast to recharge your
battery, it often over heats and basically blows.  You need to remove batter
and put on a charger.  Now You Know.  You Hvae learned your lesson
