1990 chev. Z24 3.1L

While driving, my oil pressure guage runs at 3/4 and under braking it can
drop to around 1/4 and makes the engine run a little rough. Could it be a
failing oil pump or is the timing chain on its way out?

First thing I would check, is your oil level.  Check that and reply
back.
