Hey, I really cant understand whats going on here. I have 1996 Saturn
SL2 with after factory alarm and Stereo.
I drive the car 25 miles. Stop it....30 minutes later the car wont
start. ( i can hear the starter turn).
I eventually need to get a jump.
BUT....if I leave it overnight....i am able to start the car with no
problems.
I took it to the dealer last weekend, and after running all their
diagnostics, they say the battery is testing fine.
So it seems that after a small break(after a long drive 20+ miles) the
car wont start...but waiting over night the car starts.
But after a short drive the car starts after a short break.
Gosh this is so weird....the dealer couldnt reproduce my problem and
so i was out $95.

when you say you can hear the starter turn, it cranking normally or spinning
with out cranking?

Yup, it's not likely the battery. It sounds like the ignition module or
some important sensor like the engine temperature sensor is giving false
information to the main computer after it gets warmed up good. You need to
plug the car into a computer and drive it till it's hot and watch the sensor
input readings to find out which one is not reading correctly when the
engine gets hot.
So for instance, if it's the engine temp sensor telling the computer that
the engine is cold when it is actually hot, then the air/fuel mix will be
way wrong and the car won't start.

Has anybody found the solution to this.

Sorry for coming in so late, but I haven't read the group for a while.
First of all, if the starter is turning the engine over, the battery
is good enough to start the car.
However, since your problem only occurs after the car has warmed up,
and goes away after it has cooled off a bit, then you have a heat
related problem. Next time it happens, you need to check for spark
and gas. A quick way to check is to spray a bit of starter fluid into
the intake, if the car starts then dies, you need a fuel pump, if it
doesn't start your ignition system is dying from heat.
