hi
i recently purchsed a set of cam wheels from a friends of mine. he
used to have them fitted to a ford focus and another freinds
previousley had them fitted to a ford fiesta. the thing is, when i
fitted them to my escort i realised they aren't sitting flush on the
centre hub and that i would need to purchase some spigot rings to
change the diametre. however, when i went to get some spigot rings i
was told that the wheels i have are actually specifically made to fit
a saab and that the spigot rigs to fit a ford don't fit inside the
centre hole of the wheel. i was wondering if anyone out there has had
a similar problem and whether it is possible to get a set of spigot
rings with a central diametre to fit on a ford escort but with an
outer diameter to fit into the wheels for a saab. please help cos the
movement on the steering wheel is pissin me off and i'm not sure if
its entirely safe.
thanks

Let's see if I understand it... You put the wrong wheels on your car.
They are flopping around enough so you have problems steering the car,
and
YOU'RE NOT SURE IF ITS ENTIRELY SAFE???
No, it is *NOT* safe! Take them off before you kill, or injure,
someone else. If you want to kill yourself, fine, just do it in a way
that won't hurt others.

i never said it was affecting my steering/control of the car. i
simply said it was making the steering wheel wobble/vibrate slightly.
i bet you're a 40 in a 60 type of jack!

Have you had them balanced and checked for damage or out-of-round condition?

Mr. Stokoe, I was merely implying that the problem likely was not
coming
from a lack-of-centering & that you should be ok so long as the lugs fit the
holes/studs and the hole-pattern fit the bolt-pattern. And, yes I DID
mis-infer "movement on the steering wheel" as meaning loss of
steering-control--sorry.
There was absolutely no intent of flame--and I apologize if any was
taken. Just wanted you to feel safer knowing someone else recently
installed a set of Ranger alum. wheels on a '94 Toyota pkp. by reaming out
the hub-center-holes on the wheels. (With nice Toyota decals on the Ford
center caps, they looked quite nice once installed.)
By the way, I don't understand what's meant by one being a 40 in a 60
type of jack. I'm a simple person who has spent many hours under a car--by
choice--and enjoyed most all of it. And in doing so, I've missed hearing
many terms. Hope it's not a flame coming my way ; however, in case I run
across it again, I'd like to know if it's a compliment (hopefully) or an
insult (hoping not).
In all sincerity, sdlomi2. And, I hope you have a good day too.

I'm surprised to learn you have "steering-wheel-movement" caused by
wheels whose lug pattern is correct AND proper lug nuts are installed
properly. They alone should keep the wheels centered--not as safely perhaps
as if they were hub-centered as well. Some cars ARE hub-centered and some
are centered by the lugs-and-studs. BE CAREFUL & hth. s

ok thanks everyone for the feedback, its greatly appreciated. i have
since checked the tightness of the nuts incase they are losening and
thats why there is movement of the steering wheel. they are not loose
however, so i am currently trying to find out if i can get spigot
rings to fit simply to be sure that a wheel wont fall off and to stop
the irritating wobble. from all the feedback given i am pretty sure
they are safe how they are, and knowing that the mate i bought them
off had them on a focus for a year and another friend on a fiesta for
a year with no problems reassures me.
now gettin to the 40 in a 60 comment. what i mean by that is a
description of someone who tends to travel ridiculously below the
driving limit when it is clearly safe to do so. people who are
constantly "safety" concious but who in fact cause problems. i'm not
a boy racer, i'm not a speed freak, but i was taught that you should
drive up to the limit whenever possible, something i agree with. by
driving slower than this causes road rage type of situations and makes
the driver behind more likely to take a risk to get past. but thats
another discussion topic.
