===============================

A hybrid car contains both an electric motor and a small gasoline
engine.

It runs on the electric motor in most "stop-and-go" city travel and
switches to the gas engine for steady speed driving.

The advantage is that the total fuel cost is much less.

The disadvantage is that the car is usually extremely expensive
and the fuel savings take a long time to offset the purchase price.

To say nothing of the cost of eventually needed to replace the expensive
battery when it eventually dies...

And the environmental damage from disposal of the battery. Even
recycled it will damage the environment, possibly more than a
non-hybrid vehicle.

I heard the Toyota Hybred, factoring in cost of battery replacement
only saves about $500/year in operation costs compard to other same
sized vehicles , with it operatin at max efffency.  Now that doesn't
sound much, especially compared to the intitial cost of the hybred
car.

I have no proof about that information being totally correct, so I'm
asking.. considering the higher cost of gasoline now, what is the
projected operations savings verses a simular sized car, over the
average life span?  Now I can G for it, but I was wondering if an
'expert' had a good source for this information.

thanks,
