I was also wondering about the reality of Edmunds auto review site and how they gather the data for their estimates.

As with any other source, I E Car & drive, CR, etc. you get their
OPINION based on the information they receive from personal
observation and the opinions of other they question about their
opinion.  LOL

From what we see in our business servicing thousand of vehicle,
from most every brand, every week, ALL manufactures are building
good vehicles today.  The only real difference among them is
style and price.   Your chances of getting a bad one are only two
percent no matter which brand you chose.  

My advice would be, if you were asking me, would be to drive
every one of those that suits your needs then buy the one with
the best 'total drive home price,' that suits your budget.

If you sign up for stuff, you will sometimes get sent survey forms.
Asking about what car you own or have tested and your options about
it.
