I have a 2001 Olds Aurora 52,000 miles.   As I was accelerating onto
an on ramp the car jerked and my tacometer instantly redlined.  I knew
the redline was false because the motor was not running hard. I pulled
off the road and restarted the car, no problem. As I said the motor
was not running hard, so the redline was flase, but for a split second
when I accelerated something happened. This happened twice in the past
month.
What could it be?

Impending battery failure and/or loose connection at or near battery.
Notice the tac needle when you first turn on the key (without starting).
Think you will see it peg then return to zero.
