ac not working in a 96 park avenue do i need to take it to a mechanic or
can i do the work myself?

Rule of thumb: if you have to ask, take it to a mechanic...

On the belt: should be a diagram on the radiator support or shroud, or
hood.

Greetings,

Can you do the work yourself?  Yes.  Does it make sense?  First attempt
to diagnose the problem and then ask yourself the same question again.
