Mounted on a bracket near the brake pedal is the "brake light switch" Check
to see if there is 12 volt to it, if you have voltage disconnect the harness
and with an ohm meter check the switch, when the pedal is up there should be
an open circuit and when you press down you should get a reading on the
meter, if not the switch is bad.

Brian - Thank you so much for your advice..we did exactly as you said and
low and behold the "brake light switch" was bad...it has been replaced and
my son-in-law is back on the road safely thanks to you..
