Hi to everybody who like talking about cars!
I’m from Russia. I’m interested in everything that is connected with
automobile. I’m doing the comparative analysis of the automobile terms in
Russian and English. Along with the terms there are the words and word
combinations (so called conversational equivalents of the terms) used in
speech of the people connected by the same profession or line of work. For
example Russian drivers call the steering wheel – baranka (small wheat loaf
in the form of a ring) ‘cause steering wheel resembles it in shape. Another
example: the lower part of the bumper is called skirt.
I guess in English you also have such words or expressions which you use
in conversational language talking about the cars. When communicating it’s
impossible to use terms all the time.
If it’s not difficult for you, share your ideas with me. I’ll be very
grateful and appreciate your help.
Thanks a lot for reading this message.
