Transmission Question

Yesterday, my wife brought her 2000 Lincoln Continental into the dealer
for the recommended 60,000 mile transmission flush and filter replacement
(a $200 job).  Now, when it's idling and you shift into drive, there's
a small, but notiecable "lurch" forward...not huge, but enough to be felt.
Up until now, it's always been a seamless transition from neutral to drive.
You could barely feel it.  Shifting into reverse is smooth as silk, so
that hasn't changed.

I'm going to bring the car back to the dealer.  My question is:  Is there
something in the transmission that can be adjusted for a smoother transition
into drive?

Thanks!
Scott

I'd check the fluid level first. It might be just a bit low. Also
understand that more than one transmission has been damaged by
flushing. If it happened while at the dealer it's their
responsibility. Likely they will not acknowledge any liability on
their part and will just tell you that "they all do that". They may
not have pulled the trans pan and it may be full of crap from their
miracle flush. Demand that they drop the pan then replace the filter.
Good luck.

Nicky,

I took the car back to the dealer today, and they said the fluid level was
3/4 pint low, so they topped it off.  Also, the noticeable "lurch" when putting
it in drive had diminished to just a slight lurch, which the service adviser
said was normal.  The theory is that there was some air trapped in the fluid,
and it worked itself out since Monday (35 miles since then) causing the level
to drop a bit.  Yes, they did replace the filter as part of the job.  Our dealer
is very reputable, and we have a long, favorable history with him.  I have no
reason to believe they took any shortcuts during the flush/filter replacement,
as their service has always been A-1 (they're the largest Ford dealership in
Minnesota).  He suggested we come back in next week so they can take another
look at it, just to be sure.  I'll keep you posted.

Thanks!
Scott
