Emergency - Cant get power window up on 89 Caprice

Emergency - It's the middle of winter and I cant get the #^&*$!# power
window up on an 89 Caprice station wagon.  I opened the door panel.
The motor is getting power on both terminals (up and down), is
grounded, and does work in the down position.  It's now all the way
down.  I want it up.  In fact I dont care if it never works again, I
just want to get the window closed.  This is on the passenger side.
I wont even get started on hos much I hate power windows.  Those
useless #^&*$!# POS.  Give me a plain crank......
Anyhow, i got stuck with these #^&*$!# things and all I want to do is
raise the window.  Maybe when the weather is warm I will screw with
it, but not now.

But how do I get the window up.  Is there a way to manually bypass the
motor or something?  Worse yet, with the window down, there is no way
to get down in there, and on top of that, the motor is held in by some
of the most assenine things I have ever seen.  They are like bolts
that are pieces of tin on the inside that expand and are screwed into
the door.  I habe never seen such nonsense.  Why cant they just use
common bolts?

I am about ready to grind and/or drill them out, but there still needs
to be soem way to get the window up after that.  Even if I have to jam
a piece of wood under it, just as long as the window is closed.  Is
there some trick to this?

Please reply ASAP, I am freezing my a.s off.
Pictures on websites etc. appreciated.

PS. This is NOT the window assembly with the metal straps under it
that raise the window, instead there is a metal band with a strap
inside of it with holes about every 1/4" apart.  Apparently the motor
has a gear that turns these teeth.

Back to cussing at the SOB that invented the power window.....

The motor is an isolated ground reversing unit.  Power on one terminal
and ground to the other or vise versa will move the window up or down.

Remove the door panel.  Unplug the 2 wire connector at the window
motor.  Apply 12 V power to one terminal (motor side) and ground the
other.  The window will move up or down.  If down, reverse the
connections - power up the other terminal and ground the first one.

This assumes that the motor is OK.

Second CSE...'s suggestion.  Add that if the motor runs "down", it will
almost certainly run "up" as well.  However, it could be sufficiently
tired that it does not generate enough torque to drive the glass
up...even though there is probably a spring counterbalance to help.
Therefore: if the motor runs, but cannot lift the glass, help it.  That
is: WITH GREAT CARE THAT YOU DON'T GET YOUR HAND SLICED-OFF, apply "up"
power to the motor and push or pull the glass upward.

Before you do this, use a powerful flashlight and inspect the works.
It could be that something mechanical has shattered and jambed the
mechanism.

Thanks

Your advice worked and its up again.  Of course then I had to get the
stray cat out from under the seat that has decided it was a new home.
Not only is the window up, but it goes up and down just fine again.  I
lubed it well too.  Why the switch did not work is beyond me, because
it works now.  But the direct wiring worked fine.
