ok, i am 16 years old and a first time driver/car buyer. I bought a
car that was really nice looking with many extras and low miles for
very cheap, but there was a dent in the quarter panel that needed to be
fixed. The car was issued a salvage title for this and from what I
understand you need a clear title to get your car registered, at least
in the state of maine. I want to know how I can get my car to be a
clear title so that I can register it and drive it around legally.
plllease help me out!
You need to check with your local DMV (dept. of motor vehicles) to find
inspection stations and have it inspected. They might even be online
for look ups.
Having a salvage title means a 'full' inspection of every mechanical
part, so you should have everything working up to specs.
A quarter panel dent might be enough to 'write off' an older vehicle as
far as insurance is concerned, but it won't be the main concern for the
inspectors, the mechanical health and emissions (if applicable) health
will.
The fixes to get it passed inspection might cost a lot if you can't do
your own work....
