Hi,

An uncle of mine who is into fixing up cars in his spare time has been
asking me recently if I know anything about the CAN bus interface that is
apparently being used in newer model cars as part of the onboard vehicle
computer system (he asked me since he knew I had a background in computer
networking).

Does anyone know of any good resources for information on this protocol.  I
have found some basic information but more technical references that I
could show to my uncle would be appreciated.

One specific question I have from my preliminary look would be does there
exist a consumer level device that would act as a protocol analyzer and/or
message sniffer that would allow him to view messaging traffic on this
interface ?

Thanks for the help,

Jay
