1970 duster

ok so i have a 70 duster slant 6  198 with 3 on the tree
im having problum with  losing water
theres  no reservor  for this modle
car does not over heat
i had a 195  thermostat in it but water is getting hot and opening the
new 16 pound rad. cap
so on short trips i lose alot of water
i need help with this  i now i can try to put in a higher temp
thermostat or take the other one out and not put one in  but i like to
see if any one has anything else too say about it as far cuz it bite be
a bigger thing then just the termostat but i dont know plz help thank u

With the thermostat out, refill the rad and run the engine hot with
the rad cap off and watch for bubbles.   If bubbles appear, you have a
head gasget issue.  If no bubbles, replace thermostat with a 180,
refill and run engine hot with the rad cap off to see how long it
takes to 'blow' the coolant out.       If coolant is 'blowing' out,
then time to get the system pressure checked.
