I recently had a new alternator installed in my ''96 Riviera. Right after
this a strong smell of acetone was present. Then mechanic put in new battery
and new supercharger. He said the old battery was the cause of the smell.
It has been two weeks now and the smell is getting stronger and there seems
to be a lot of steam or vapors coming out of exhaust when car is idoling.
Anyone know what this smell could be? Some people say it smells sweat like a
peach, to me it smells like nail polish remover.
Puzzled and sick of smell.
This sounds to me like a blown head gasket or a cracked cylinder head.
Either is major, and shuld be repaired as soons as possible.

Thank you Roy,
Took the car back to mechanic and was told the head gasket was fine. I am,
however, STILL smelling that odor. Where oh where are there good mechanics
in the Silverdale area ???
